The Carman Golf and Curling Club is excited to host some of the region’s best high school golfers as the Zone 4 Golf Championship is scheduled this Friday.
“We try to encourage as many golfers as possible to come out and still keep to the provincial format which is a team of four and the top three scores are used,” says Zone 4 Golf convener, Brent Unrau. “The winning teams will qualify for Provincials and if there is an individual who shot the low round that wasn’t a part of a team he or she will get to go to provincials as well.”
The tournament moves from club to club each year and the Carman Golf and Curling Club was selected for the 2018 championship. 11 schools have signed teams or single golfers up for the event including Carman, Garden Valley, Morden, Shevchenko, and Portage. 55 golfers are expected to participate in the tournament.
Carman Collegiate’s girl’s team is made up of Reagan Nykyforak, Jenna Bruce, Darci Wood, and Breanna Millions, all Grade 12 golfers, and Regan Durand a Grade 10 student. The boy’s team is made up of Grade 11’s Tyler Park, Riley Goertzen, Sam Sullivan, Grade 10 Nick Carnelley Carson Park, a Grade 9 student. The Cougars are also sending Zeke Fehr — Grade 12 — competing as an individual male golfer
The tournament is a one day format and will wrap up Friday afternoon.
