Fifth straight for second place Beavers

The second place Carman Beavers won their fifth straight South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League game Saturday night when the Beavers beat down the Altona Maroons with a 5-1 victory.

The Beavers got to work early and league-leading scorer Mark Owen scored his first of four on the night to give Carman a 1-0 lead 3:38 into the first period. The Maroons snapped back through with a goal of their own a few minutes later to deadlock the game at 1 heading into the second period.

The second period was the Mark, Aaron, and Jake show, as the trio put up a combined 8 points in the second. Owen scored three straight goals to jump to 15 on the year while Aaron Lewadniuk put up three assists. Jake Dudar had two assists in the second period and a third in the final 20 minutes.

Lewadniuk added one more for the Beavers in the final period with Owen and Dudar picking up the assists. Lewadniuk, Owen, and Dudar sit first, third, and sixth in player scoring respectively in the SEMHL.

Beavers’ goalie Steve Christie made 38 saves for the win while Altona netminder Eric Martel stopped 33 shots he faced.

The Beavers next match is a home game against the Morden Redskins. The Redskins sit in third place in the standings with a 4-2-1 record, 1 point back of the Beavers. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m. at the Carman Arena on Saturday, December 1.
