Carman Collegiate’s girl’s golf team used home course advantage and came away victorious at the Zone 4 Golf Championship held at the Carman Golf and Curling Club Friday afternoon in Carman, Man.
The Cougars girl’s team is made up of Reagan Nykyforak, Jenna Bruce, Darci Wood, and Breanna Millions, all Grade 12 golfers, and Regan Durand a Grade 10 student. Three of the four golfers’ scores were selected at the end of the competition and Carman the ladies’ posted the top score of 379 to Portage’s 385 to notch a spot at provincials.
Carman’s boys ended up falling to champions Portage Collegiate, who has won the event for the past two years straight. The boy’s team is made up of Grade 11’s Tyler Park, Riley Goertzen, Sam Sullivan, Grade 10 Nick Carnelley and Carson Park, a Grade 9 student. Carman finished in sixth place on the boy’s side. 11 schools signed up teams or single golfers for the event with 55 in total participating in the tournament.
The Cougars are sent Zeke Fehr — a Grade 12 student — and Carson Park to compete as individual male golfers. Oscar Murray of Rosenort shot the low of rate boys at 75. Portage Collegiate’s Meagan Inman shot the girl’s low at 113.
The Provincial Championship Tournament is to be held in Riverton on September 28, 2018.
