The Beavers struck early and often.

Carman team captain Aaron Lewadniuk potted two goals – including one just 53 seconds after puck drop to open the scoring – and picked up an additional five helpers while Jake Dudar pitched in with six points of his own (1G, 5A) as the Beavers downed the Portage Islanders 15-2 Thursday night at Stride Place in Portage la Prairie.

Trailing by three late in the first, Jeremy Brooks gave the home crowd something to cheer about with a goal in the final minute of the period. Brett Brooks and Cole Butler assisted on the play.

Brad Bruchanski pulled the hosts back within one 2:13 into the second but then disaster struck.

Just 45 seconds later Braedan Beernaerts struck for the first of 11 unanswered Beaver goals. Mark Owen notched a hat trick while Laurent Benjamin and Beernaerts each collected five points in the victory.

Carman goalie Steve Christie made 36 saves in the win while both Ryan Person and Adam Lamblez split time in goal for the Isles.

Carman improves to 7-0-0-1 on the year and are in first place in the South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League. The Islanders fall to 4-4-1 on the season and sit fourth in league standings.

The Isles will look to get back into the win column tomorrow night on the road in Notre Dame.
