The candidates are in for next month’s municipal election in both the Rural Municipality of Dufferin and the Town of Carman as the final day of registration eligibility has officially passed and a few familiar faces are already in thanks to acclamation as others prepare for the big day.

It is official, the Town of Carman has a new Mayor for the next four years as Deputy Mayor Brent Owen was the only applicant to get all of his nomination papers into Town Hall before the deadline. Owen has served on council for the past two terms. He was appointed deputy mayor of the town council in 2014.

The four incumbents seeking a spot on council after the upcoming election include Jane Swanton, Matthew Gray, Richard Dyck, and Brad Johnston. Rod Penner, Chris Hasell, Bernie Townsend, and William (Bill) Morgan have also registered and filed nomination papers to compete in October as well. There are six seats to fill meaning two applicants will be eliminated.

Paula Learmond was registered to run for council but called and explained she would not be returning with nomination papers.
