The Carman Area Foundation is set to receive a little more than $30K from the Winnipeg Foundation thanks to the 24 Hour Giving Challenge that happened on November 17, 2018.
“We received a total of $26,750, which is by far the highest we’ve received in donations in the 4 years the program has been running,” says Executive Director of the Carman Area Foundation, Fred Colvin. “We reached the $10,000 threshold to qualify for the maximum ‘stretch’ from the Winnipeg Foundation and the province. They will contribute $2000 each, so our total contribution to our endowment fund will be almost $31,000. That is a fantastic level of support from the communities we serve.”
For every $5 donation, the Manitoba government and Endow Manitoba will contribute $1 up to a max of $2,000 per foundation. The one-day donation blitz is a huge boost for Foundations around the province.
“We’re very pleased with this year’s total,” said Barry Gosnell, chair of the Carman Area Foundation board. “At first we didn’t make it to the $10,000 for complete matching funds but the last couple of years have been really good. This year we went way above that total and we’re very thankful for the support from the community.”
All funds raised remain in the community and will help the Carman Area Foundation with further grants down the road. The organization’s granting schedule begins in January.
“That’s when where we open up our granting window for people to apply for funding,” said Gosnell. “We have a committee that comes in and looks at each application and we have a full meeting of the board in the second week of March. There we will assign the funds to the particular grants.”
That Carman Area Foundation’s fund will continue to grow every year because their assets grow every year. Gosnell adds 2018 has been a very positive year for the Foundation.
“We’ve had a great year thanks to donations through individuals, golf tournaments and other big events we held over the year,” Gosnell added.
The Carman Area Foundation grants funds to a number of organizations in the Town of Carman and the RM of Dufferin.
