It was officially the biggest Curl for Cancer tournament and banquet held in Carman since the event’s inception years ago, and with over 320 people attending the entire celebration, the Curl for Cancer Committee feels their 25th-anniversary event was their best yet.
“We did things up a little bigger this year and we are so happy with the turnout and the support we received this year,” says committee member, Diane Hayward. “We’re still tallying the total but I’m fairly comfortable to say that this was our largest total ever raised.”
The event was highlighted by the annual curling tournament held at the Carman golf and Curling Club while the banquet portion was moved to the Carman Community Hall in anticipation of the larger crowd for the 25 year anniversary. The committee members were excited to have Brooke Russell as the guest speaker, as her story is incredibly heartfelt.
There was also a silent auction, live auction, rainbow auction and a live draw for people to take part in throughout the night.
“Andrew Kippen was the winner of the oval 1.0-carat diamond donated by Mokada and Evelyn Froebe was the winner of our trip for two to Las Vegas to take in the Continental Cup,” said Hayward.
“The event could not be what it is without all the generous support of all the businesses and community members who donated. Plus everyone that came out to support the event, it really couldn’t happen without all the support we receive.”
She adds the town of Carman is very passionate about the event and will continue to raise funds for cancer research and cancer care. The group will donate the funds raised to multiple organizations including Cancer Care Manitoba, Canadian Cancer Society, Carman Palliative Care, and South Central Cancer Resource.
A total amount raised has not been calculated as of yet.
