Carman’s own Terry Fox Run is happening September 15 with the start set at Ryall Park and people are encouraged to stop in for a great afternoon, walking or not.

“12:30 p.m. people can come to register, even if they have registered online,” said Linda Sylvester, Run Organizer. “There will be a food truck there, some entertainment and tee shirts for sale.  The run, unless there is inclement weather, will be at 2 p.m. with everything wrapping up by 4 p.m. There will also be some music at Ryall Park to start things off as well.”

Sylvester has been organizing and taking part in the Terry Fox Run for years with schools and officially got Carman’s running last year.

“It means a lot to me because of the research that comes from it,” said Sylvester. “I’ve been doing this since the ’90s and it’s really close to my heart. People can check out our Facebook Page, Carman Terry Fox Run 2019, as most of the information is on there. People can register by going to the Terry Fox website and looking up the run site for Carman, but we will also have an in-person registration the day of.”

There will be three different routes on the community pathway through Carman. One is a shorter route, one is a medium route, and the other is the longest route on the pathway. Everything will be marked out clearly for walkers.

“The people who want to just drop by, there will be a silver collection to help with donations,” added Sylvester. “We don’t know how long the band will play but they may stay for longer depending on how they’re feeling. This is close to my heart as a cancer survivor and we really hope to see a lot of people out for it. They can walk, roll or ride, however, they want to take part, and people are encouraged to bring their own water as we’re trying to stay green in the process.”

79 cents of every dollar goes into cancer research at the Terry Fox Foundation, according to Sylvester.

“I’m hoping the foundation will start to encourage the people working on the research to speak out more about what they do because that has made a big difference to people’s lives,” she added. “Every dollar does count, and most of it goes directly to research.”

Register for the Terry Fox Run in Carman online or in-person the day of, September 15 at Ryall Park.
