Gauging interest in starting up the Carman Lions Club again is the purpose of a meeting set for next week.
John Fehr, district governor for Lion District 5M13, which covers the majority of Manitoba, said the meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, May 13 at 7 p.m. at the Legion Auxiliary Hall.
“It’s going to be a brief one,” Fehr said. “It’ll only be lengthened by the number of questions that are asked.
“I’m going to do a presentation on the history of Lions and what we are there for and we hope to sign up enough members to start a club here in town.”

Disbanded June 2007
The Carman Lions Club officially disbanded in June of 2007, due to low member numbers.
Former Carman Lions Club president Larry Hillmer said he’d like to see the local club start up again.
“I think there’s a general feeling that the membership is getting older and and they’re trying to start up with some younger people again,” he explained. “We were down to just a few members and it was getting to be a lot of work for a few people who have been around for a long time.”
