Petries open local sports store

Greg and Kate Petrie are in business.

The couple opened Carman Sports and Empower Fitness Ltd. last week.

Kate pointed out why they opened the business, "the lack of a sports store in town."

Their 4,600 square foot store on Main Street includes a sports clothing and equipment section and a large exercise room.

Working Together

"We think the two businesses will work together," Greg said.

There are shower facilities, change rooms, and a kids' room. Customers coming into the store not only include people they recognize, but also some new faces.

And so far, the feedback they've received has been positive.

"People are happy there's a business of this kind in Carman," Greg said.

The store is open Mondays to Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

However, the exercise room is not yet open. The Petries are waiting for some more exercise equipment to arrive and hope to have the exercise room open by the end of next week.

Once it is open the hours will be the same days as the store, but from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Greg said several of the workout stations will also have TVs.

He added they started renovating the store in August, doing much of the work themselves.
